Votorantim diversifies its business with the creation of Nitro Química Brasileira, one of the country's first chemical industries. José Ermírio de Moraes and his partner Wolf Klabin acquire the synthetic silk production equipment of the US company Tubize Chatillon, which went bankrupt. All the machinery of the installed company of the State of Virginia (USA) was dismantled and brought by ship to Brazil.
The first hydroelectric plant built by Votorantim, the Usina do França, is inaugurated on the Juquiá River, in the Vale do Ribeira region, in São Paulo. The plant supplies power to the CBA and was the first of a series of seven power plants built in the region over three decades.
VCP - Votorantim Celulose e Papel was founded from the acquisition of the Celpav project, from the former Guatapará Cia. With this company, Votorantim consolidated its position in the pulp and paper market, with a forest base of 80 thousand hectares of eucalyptus planted in the interior of São Paulo.
Votorantim implements a new model of governance, by establishing a balance between family ownership and control and the group of executives managing the various businesses. Votorantim Participações, the holding company is established to manage three new business segments: Votorantim Industrial, Votorantim Finanças (which controls Banco Votorantim) and Votorantim Novos Negócios, a venture capital investment company.
The Memória Votorantim (Votorantim Memory) was rolled-out during the celebrations of the company's 85th anniversary. The project consists of a documentation and research center responsible for the legacy and preservation of the history of Votorantim, which develops a cataloging and recording work of the employees' oral history.
The Shared Solutions Center (CSC) is created in Curitiba (PR). It is a Center of Excellence of services in the areas of accounting, controlling, payroll and people management, among others, which serves all Votorantim companies. In 2014, a CSC operation was established in Peru and currently employs about 600 people.
The Competence Center in Information Technology (CCTI) is created to seek synergies and generate gains in scale in the company's IT management. Acting as a center of excellence, it now provides customized solutions, in addition to standardizing the systems adopted by companies. The center of excellence has several certifications and is one of the largest operations of integrated management systems (ERP) in the country.
The Legado das Águas, the largest private reserve of Atlantic forest in the country, with 31 thousand hectares, is launched in partnership with the Government of the State of São Paulo. Votorantim protected the lands for more than 50 years in the Vale do Ribeira region, in the Southern region of the state, to ensure the supply of water to the hydroelectric power plants and the supply of the local population.
The Real Estate Solutions Center (CSI) is created, another Votorantim center of excellence, responsible for the management of the company's real estate assets. CSI manages a total of 797 thousand hectares distributed throughout Brazil, including operational and strategic areas (such as factories, mines, forests, power plants and distribution centers), farms and real estate properties.
Votorantim and ArcelorMittal Brasil entered into an agreement involving their long steel operations in Brazil, whereby Votorantim's steel operations in Brazil became subsidiaries of ArcelorMittal and Votorantim SA becomes a shareholder of ArcelorMittal Brasil, with a capital corresponding to 15% of the combined long steel business.
